Little-Known Archive Link Lets You Download Your Facebook Content
Who hasn’t lost data? That sinking feeling that hits when you realize that important documents, irreplaceable pictures, or work you’ve just finished are gone…it’s agony.
So, we make back-ups for that day the inevitable will surely happen.
Think about it. Is there any content on your Facebook timeline you would really miss if it were gone? Of course.
All this talk in the Facebook IPO build up made me wonder just how vulnerable Facebook is. It’s not unimagineable that you’ll wake up one day and it will all be gone.
So I made a back-up. Here’s how.
- In your Facebook account, select Account Settings from the drop down in the upper right corner of the page
- On the General Account Settings page, look for the last selection at the bottom, Language
- Beneath it, in tiny letters, look for Download a copy of your Facebook data
- It’s a link; click on it
- Click on the green Start My Archive button
Now that you’ve got that important step out of the way, just remember, the things that others post on your wall (like wonderful birthday greetings) and the posts you make on others’ walls, can’t be saved. If something goes wrong, they’re gone for you.
Maybe I’ll write a how-to post on making a screen cap.
