#TuesdayTips: Why you should GOMO
Before we dive in, you should know “GOMO” means to “Go Mobile.”
According to Google, mobile searches have grown 4 times since 2010. Also, by 2013 more people will search Google using their mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.) than PCs or laptops.
It is important that a customer’s, or potential customer’s, experience on your website via a mobile device is just as easy as visiting it from a desktop or laptop.
Here are a few tips to follow when optimizing your website for mobile users:
- It should be designed for thumb, not mice. The design should prevent accidental clicks. Make it clear and easy for people to see the content. It should also only scroll in one direction – scrolling down is the most popular.
- The content should be prioritized. You want information that is valuable for users on the go, so make your phone number easily accessible by a simple click.
- Make it local. Consumers are using their phones for local information. Whether they are looking for the nearest gas station or finding out if a restaurant is open, having your address on the landing page is very important. Mobile users want to connect with businesses in their area. According to Google, 95% of smartphone users search for local information and, get this, over half of them call the business and/or visit the location. Even more importantly 90% of these people act within 24 hours.
Make it a priority to optimize your website for mobile, because a bad mobile experience can cost you customers.
